Dr. Kakos is a dedicated professional in the field of dentistry, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Wayne State University and graduating from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry in 2004. Thomas Rafaill, DDS

Dr. Tom Rafaill was born in Rochester NY, during Dr. Nick’s orthodontic residency—his father—sparking his love for orthodontics. From a young age, he shadowed his father and grandfather in their orthodontic practices, where he learned the secrets to success in orthodontics. Growing up in Grosse Pointe Shores, MI, Dr. Tom went to Grosse Pointe North High School and was accepted into The University of Detroit Mercy’s accelerated seven-year dental program. After completing his undergraduate Bachelor’s degree in Biology (after only three years!) he attended The University of Detroit Mercy Dental School, where he graduated summa cum laude with his Doctorate in Dental Surgery in 2021. Immediately after completion of his dental degree, he pursued his passion in orthodontics at The University of Rochester Eastman. This accelerated, two-year residency in orthodontics has been regarded as the top orthodontic program in the nation for decades. During his time at Detroit Mercy Dental School, Dr. Tom received a research award, spotlighting the top students who were active in advancing the dental profession. He’s also received scholarships from the American Hellenic Legion as a symbol for Greek descendants focused on academics. Intrigued by orofacial pain and TMJ disorder in dental school, Dr. Tom was the first to found and lead the Orofacial Pain & Sleep Apnea Organization. Here, he educated fellow colleagues on their knowledge of TMJ disorder, sleep apnea, and current treatment regarding the conditions. Dr. Tom is an ABO board-eligible orthodontist and a third-generation orthodontist. His professional memberships include: American Association of Orthodontics American Dental Association Macomb Dental Association Oakland County Dental Society Tweed Orthodontic Society In his free time, Dr. Tom enjoys spending his time woodworking, playing tennis, downhill skiing, restoring vehicles, and playing and watching hockey (especially the Detroit Red Wings). He’s also an avid golfer with a +10 handicap.

Omar Mario Masabni, BDS, DDS, MS

Dr. Omar Mario Masabni is a Board Certified Periodontist & Dental Implant Surgeon and has earned the prestigious Diplomate status from the American Board of Periodontology. Dr. Masabni has been named “TOP DENTIST” by Hour Detroit Magazine. Dr. Masabni has earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the American University of Beirut and his Bachelor of Oral & Dental Surgery Degree with high distinction for ranking top one, from BAU – Faculty of Dentistry, where the Lebanese Prime Minister recognized him with Gamal Abdel Nasser Award for Academic Distinction. During his dental studies, Dr. Masabni developed a strong interest in periodontal medicine and then relocated to Detroit, Michigan in pursuance of his acceptance into the University of Detroit Mercy – School of Dentistry, where he served as chief resident. He completed 2 years of General Dentistry training and 3 additional years of specialty training in Periodontology, Implantology & IV sedation, where he received Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree, a Certificate in periodontics and dental implant surgery & a Master of Science from the University of Detroit and Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital. Dr. Masabni received numerous honors and awards including the Zahi Khalaf Merit Award for Academic Excellence from the International College of Dentists. He was offered membership in the prestigious Jesuit Academic Honor Society – Alpha Sigma NU for ranking in the top 15% of the class during his specialty training. Dr. Masabni is devoted to teaching and serves on the Dean’s Faculty at the University of Michigan – School of Dentistry as a Clinical Assistant Professor, encouraging the next generation of dentists to have the same passion for periodontology and dedication to serving patients.
